American Airlines adds seven global routes for 2027

American Airlines is expanding its international network for summer 2027 with seven new routes and three new destinations, including a new link between Philadelphia and Vienna.
The carrier said all seven new routes will operate daily. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale August 31 through American’s website and mobile app.
The biggest European headline for travellers is Vienna, which will join American’s network for the first time. Service from Philadelphia to Vienna will begin May 6, 2027, using an Airbus A321XLR.
American will be the only US airline serving Vienna when the route launches, strengthening its Central European network after adding Prague and Budapest in 2026. The last US carrier to fly Vienna was Delta Air Lines with a route to Atlanta, served until 2008.
More Europe, plus Tokyo
Philadelphia will also gain two other new international destinations. Flights to Porto, Portugal, begin March 28, while Reykjavik, Iceland, returns to American’s network on May 27 for the first time since 2019. Both routes will operate with Airbus A321-family aircraft.
From New York JFK, American will also launch daily flights to Amsterdam on March 28 and Nice, France, on May 6. The Amsterdam route will use the new Airbus A321XLR, while Nice will also receive the XLR treatment.
The airline will add a new US gateway to Barcelona, with daily Charlotte-Barcelona flights beginning May 27 aboard a Boeing 777-200ER.
American is also targeting Japan with a new Chicago-Tokyo Narita route launching March 19. The Boeing 787-9 service will provide onward connections across Asia through American’s partnership with Japan Airlines.
The new international schedule comes as American continues to build its premium offering. The JFK-London Heathrow route will regain a fourth daily flight March 28, operated with a Boeing 787-9 featuring Flagship Suite seats.
Together with British Airways, American said customers will have up to 14 daily flights between New York and London, giving the joint venture the largest schedule between the two cities.
American is also extending the seasonal schedule on Charlotte-Paris and Miami-Milan. Both routes will resume earlier, on March 4, 2027, responding to growing demand for spring European travel.
American’s senior vice president of network and schedule planning, Brian Znotins, said the expanded network combines new destinations with improvements to the onboard and inflight experience.
