American Airlines launches Edinburgh route on new XLR aircraft

Edinburgh1 (1) (1) American Airlines expanded its Scottish network with a new seasonal service between Edinburgh and New York JFK.

The summer routes runs through October 24, 2026.

It will operate on the airline’s newest aircraft – the Airbus A321XLR.

The newest route in American’s European network will see the first time the airline’s Airbus A321XLR will fly internationally, after debuting in December 2025 between JFK and Los Angeles (LAX).

“When we launched our Philadelphia route last year, the feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, so we look forward to helping Scottish travelers connect to a new US destination this year,” said José A. Freig, VP – International and Inflight Dining Operations at American Airlines.

“We’re also excited to introduce customers to the Airbus A321XLR. This aircraft upgrades the travel experience between Scotland and the Big Apple.”

American will also be bringing back its seasonal route between Edinburgh and Philadelphia, returning on March 28, 2026 and operating through January 5, 2027.

American is the first US airline to introduce the A321XLR.

It features 20 Flagship Suite seats, 12 Premium Economy seats and 123 Main Cabin seats.

All customers will have access to high-speed Wi-Fi and complimentary seatback entertainment featuring Bluetooth connectivity.
