The shakeup will see the British Airways Executive Club rebranded as the British Airways Club from 1 April.
The programme is moving to Tier Points rewards based on the cost of flights.
Loyalty members can earn Tier Points on add-on purchases such as excess baggage.
The earn rate will be one tier point for every £1 of eligible spend.
Under the new model, 3,500 tier points are required to reach Bronze status, 7,500 for Silver and 20,000 for Gold.
Currently, it consists of Blue, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold Guest List tiers.
Customers with bookings for travel after 1 April, 2025 will earn ‘on a conversion of the existing method.’
“Any existing bookings will earn proportionally the same number of Tier Points, or more, as they would today,” BA said.
From 1 April, customers can earn up to 1,000 tier points and Avios when paying for a contribution to sustainable aviation fuels.
There is also a change to earning potential when purchasing British Airways Holidays packages.
“After the success of the British Airways Holidays double tier points promotion, the airline has created a permanent proposition on holiday packages,” BA said.
“Members will earn tier points based on the price of the entire package, with no limit in place, making it possible to earn elite status in fewer trips than under today’s offer.
“The changes we have announced underline our continued investment in our loyalty programme and are based on our members’ feedback,” said Colm Lacy, British Airways’ chief commercial officer.
“We believe it better rewards loyalty and reflects changing travel needs.”
The changes have sparked feverish debate online with loyalty members split on whether the changes are positive.
