Delta reinforces its dominating position in Los Angeles

Picture2 (35) Delta is preparing its biggest-ever operation at Los Angeles International Airport, with more than 200 daily departures at the peak of summer 2027 as it expands both its network and premium offering.

Together with airline partners, Delta will serve nearly 70 destinations from LAX, reinforcing its position as a major force at the airport as Los Angeles continues its multibillion-dollar terminal transformation.

The airline says it will be the only carrier at LAX serving all of the airport’s top 10 markets with multiple daily flights, while adding new routes and increasing frequencies on several major domestic markets.

The expansion comes as Delta doubles down on the premium end of the market. It already offers more premium seats at LAX than any other airline and has invested $2.3 billion in its Sky Way project, connecting Terminals 2 and 3 into a larger airport campus.

Delta’s premium strategy also includes dedicated Delta One check-in with private TSA screening and exclusive Delta One Lounges.

LAX has become the first airport in Delta’s network with two Delta One Lounges. The airline plans to open another 1,100-m² Sky Club in Terminal 2 in 2027.

By 2028, Delta expects to operate four dedicated lounge spaces across Terminals 2 and 3, including two Delta One Lounges and two Sky Clubs. Combined, they will provide more than 6,000 m² and over 1,000 seats.

New routes and more frequency
The network expansion starts with Monterey, where Delta Connection will launch twice-daily nonstop service from LAX on December 19, 2026, using Embraer 175 aircraft.

The route will provide access to California’s Central Coast, including Carmel-by-the-Sea, the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur.

Philadelphia follows on June 7, 2027, with daily nonstop service operated by an Airbus A321neo.

Delta will also increase LAX service to several major US markets during summer 2027:

Raleigh-Durham: two daily flights from April 12

Boston: five daily from May 6

San Diego: five daily from June 7

Cincinnati: two daily from July 11

Houston: three daily from July 11

San Antonio: three daily from July 11

Seattle: eight daily from July 11

The expansion adds to Delta’s growing international footprint from Los Angeles. Across the South Pacific, the airline serves Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Auckland, with Melbourne becoming daily during the peak season from December 22 and Auckland returning to daily service October 25.

Delta’s latest schedule puts LAX at the centre of its wider effort to capture demand for domestic connections while expanding its higher-value premium proposition.
