easyJet will introduce high-speed onboard Wi-Fi for the first time in its history, with Starlink connectivity set to reach its fleet from the first half of 2027 and installation expected to be completed by early 2028.

The rollout will cover the airline’s Airbus A320, A320neo and A321neo aircraft, giving passengers access to high-speed internet through Starlink, the satellite connectivity service operated by SpaceX.

Passengers will be able to browse the web, stream entertainment and play online games on their personal devices during flights, bringing the onboard digital experience closer to what travellers expect on the ground.

The investment targets easyJet’s existing base of around 100 million passengers a year and is also intended to strengthen the airline’s appeal to business travellers, alongside its core leisure market. The low-cost carrier said the move reflects growing customer demand for digital services and greater convenience while flying.

Beyond entertainment and general internet access, the connectivity could provide practical benefits throughout the journey. Passengers will be able to check flight status through the easyJet app and website while in the air, as well as access destination information, including local weather, transportation options and tourism details.

The technology could also enable customers to order food and drinks from the onboard menu directly from their seats, although easyJet has not provided a timetable for introducing that feature.

Kenton Jarvis, easyJet’s CEO, said connectivity was becoming increasingly important to passengers, whether leisure travellers seeking entertainment or business customers wanting to remain informed while traveling.

He said the partnership with SpaceX would expand the options available to customers and improve the onboard experience, while supporting the airline’s focus on keeping travel accessible and affordable.

The introduction of Starlink marks a new step in easyJet’s onboard service strategy. While connectivity has become an increasingly prominent feature across the airline industry, the carrier has so far operated without onboard Wi-Fi.

easyJet has however not yet disclosed whether passengers will pay for access or whether the service will be offered free of charge.
