Indigo teams up with Norse Atlantic to support long haul flights

Norse1 India’s largest airline IndiGo has tapped Norse Atlantic to kickstart its long haul flight operations.

The companies initially signed a letter of intent for wet lease agreements for up to six aircraft in late 2024.

They have now agreed a firm wet lease for one aircraft.

The aircraft is expected to start operations in March 2025 serving long haul routes out of India.

The initial agreement is for six months, and is extendable to up to 18 months, subject to approvals.

Norse Atlantic and Indigo said they are exploring opportunities for additional aircraft to increase their collaboration further.

Indigo is the largest airline in India by passenger traffic and fleet size, carrying more than 113 million passengers.

Currently IndiGo operates regional short to medium haul services out of India and offers long haul options via codeshares.

To support its long haul ambitions, IndiGo has placed a firm order for 30 Airbus 350-900 wide body aircraft with an option for additional 70 aircraft.

Deliveries for these are expected to start from 2027.

“We look forward to support IndiGo’s long haul services, and to deliver an exceptional travel experience to their customers” said Bjorn Tore Larsen, CEO and founder of Norse Atlantic Airways.
