Qantas suffers ‘significant’ data breach

Hack7 Qantas has been hit with a major cyber-attack, which has possibly compromised the data of millions of customers.

Qantas says the hack is now contained and exposed a third-party platform used by the airline’s contact centre.

This contains personal information of around six million customers.

The data that was potentially compromised includes customer names, email, phone numbers and frequent flyer member numbers.

Qantas says it doesn’t include financial data or login passwords.

It said the compromised data is ‘significant.’

It has informed Federal Police and the Australian Cyber Security Centre.

It has brought on cybersecurity experts to help investigate the hack.

“We sincerely apologise to our customers and we recognise the uncertainty this will cause,” CEO Vanessa Hudson said.

“Our customers trust us with their personal information and we take that responsibility seriously.”
