American Express opens in Continental Europe its first Centurion Lounge

American Express will open a new Centurion Lounge at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on September 17, expanding its premium airport lounge network to one of Europe’s busiest aviation hubs.

The nearly 600 m² lounge will be the 33rd location in the Centurion Lounge Network and is positioned between Concourses E and F. It will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The opening gives eligible American Express Card Members a new option at Schiphol at a time when airport lounges are increasingly being positioned as part of the overall passenger experience rather than simply a place to wait for a flight.

“Schiphol is a major travel hub for our Card Members in the Netherlands and around the world,” said Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel. “That made Schiphol a natural place to bring the Centurion Lounge experience.”

She added that American Express is the first global credit card company to operate a lounge at AMS.

Dutch design meets premium airport hospitality
The lounge’s design draws heavily on Dutch art, landscapes, culture and architecture. A palette of blues, greens and earth tones references Amsterdam’s canals and surrounding landscapes, while repeated lines and proportions echo the city’s distinctive canal houses.

Black quartzite, brass and warm wood provide a contemporary backdrop, with floor-to-ceiling windows bringing natural light into the space.

Artwork from Dutch artists including Mieke Jonker, Reinder Schmidt, Geesien Postema and Thirza Schaap is featured throughout the lounge. One work by Jonker depicts the American Express bulldog while incorporating references to Delft Blue plates, floral patterns and former Dutch queens.

Food and beverage offerings are also designed around the destination. Guests can expect seasonal dishes influenced by Dutch and regional European flavours, alongside a full bar serving beer and cocktails.

Amsterdam’s coffee culture gets its own showcase through the Blue Roast Coffee Bar, which offers locally sourced coffee and a dedicated barista-led service.

The lounge includes armchairs, café tables, high-tops, booths, quiet workspaces and group seating. Private resting rooms, a phone room, power and USB outlets and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi are also available.

Tim de Bie, commercial terminal director at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, said the lounge adds another premium hospitality option as passengers increasingly look for different ways to relax, work or recharge before flights.

American Express Global Lounge Collection provides eligible Card Members access to more than 1,550 lounges worldwide. Further Centurion Lounge locations are planned for Newark Liberty International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport, alongside a Sidecar by The Centurion Lounge at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
