American and Hyatt said earlier this month that they had mutually decided not to continue their enhanced relationship. Existing benefits will remain available through the current earning periods, with some transition provisions extending into 2027.
Against that backdrop, Delta and Hyatt announced September 9 that their new long-term relationship will launch in the coming months, initially focusing on elite members of both loyalty programs.
The centrepiece will be a new Dual Earn benefit. Delta Medallion members will earn SkyMiles on qualifying Hyatt stays while also receiving certain World of Hyatt benefits. World of Hyatt elite members will earn Hyatt points on qualifying Delta fares, alongside selected SkyMiles benefits.
The companies said further opportunities will follow, potentially including exclusive access to personalized experiences and other member-only events.
A broader battle for the premium traveller
The move reflects a wider push by airlines and hotel groups to make loyalty programs relevant beyond the flight or hotel stay. Delta said the partnership is designed to connect the air and hotel portions of a journey, while Hyatt described it as an effort to provide greater recognition and value throughout the travel experience.
“This is a meaningful step toward the broader vision of making SkyMiles the most loved loyalty ecosystem in travel — not just for flying, but for the entire journey,” Delta CEO Ed Bastian said.
Hyatt operates 36 brands across five portfolios in 83 countries, while Delta serves more than 200 million customers annually across more than 300 destinations on six continents, according to the companies.
For Hyatt, the Delta agreement replaces an increasingly developed relationship with American. That partnership had allowed members to exchange benefits between AAdvantage and World of Hyatt, including Hyatt awards through American’s Loyalty Point Rewards and American rewards through Hyatt’s Milestone Rewards.
The new Delta-Hyatt arrangement is initially restricted to elite members, with both companies promising additional details on eligibility, benefits and participation ahead of launch.
