Discover to revive Glasgow flights in 2027 after Lufthansa exit

Picture5 (13) Discover Airlines will restore Lufthansa Group capacity at Glasgow Airport in summer 2027, taking over the Munich–Glasgow connection and bringing back direct flights from Frankfurt after Lufthansa’s withdrawal from the Scottish airport in October 2026.

The German leisure carrier will launch Frankfurt–Glasgow flights on March 29, 2027, with up to six weekly services during the summer season. The Munich–Glasgow route will follow on May 16, with up to two weekly flights. Both routes will use Airbus A320 aircraft.

The return of Munich services will revive a connection that first materialized in May 2015. Frankfurt flights followed in March 2018, but regular Munich services ended in October 2019, leaving Frankfurt as Lufthansa’s sole Glasgow route.

Despite carrying some 156,000 passengers with a load factor of 75.7% in 2025, Lufthansa finally pulled out of its Glasgow-Frankfurt route on October 3, 2026. However, the airline continues to serve Edinburgh, approximately an hour from Glasgow, from both Frankfurt and Munich.

Discover’s new Frankfurt service is scheduled to begin with three weekly flights before increasing to a near-daily operation from April 22, 2027. The Munich route is initially planned once weekly, rising to twice weekly from September 1.

The precise final operating dates for the new Glasgow services have not been specified in the published announcement. They are planned as summer-season routes, rather than confirmed year-round operations.

The launches mark Discover Airlines’ first UK routes and strengthen Scotland’s direct links with Lufthansa Group hubs, offering connections to the wider German and international networks.

The expansion also includes other Discover UK routes with Frankfurt–Bristol flights from May 17, 2027, twice weekly, and Frankfurt–Inverness from June 19, once weekly.
