The group’s hub airlines — Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS and ITA Airways — will operate up to 50 weekly flights to Japan during summer 2027, serving Tokyo-Haneda, Tokyo-Narita, Osaka and Nagoya.
The expansion strengthens the group’s position as the leading European airline group in the Japanese market.
Lufthansa returns to Nagoya
Lufthansa will resume seasonal nonstop service between Frankfurt and Nagoya from March 29, 2027. Flights will operate three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Flight LH736 will leave Frankfurt at 2:10 p.m. and arrive in Nagoya at 9:35 a.m. the following day. The return LH737 will depart Nagoya at 11:30 a.m., arriving in Frankfurt at 6:30 p.m.
Nagoya is a major industrial and economic centre, particularly for Japan’s automotive and manufacturing sectors. The city also provides access to destinations including Kyoto and other parts of central Japan.
For travellers from Japan, Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub offers onward connections across Europe and South America.
More Tokyo capacity
Lufthansa will also add a daily seasonal Frankfurt-Tokyo Narita service beginning March 28, 2027.
Flight LH710 will depart Frankfurt at 1:45 p.m. and arrive at Narita at 9:30 a.m. the next day. The return LH711 will leave Tokyo at 11:20 a.m. and reach Frankfurt at 6:40 p.m.
The new Narita service will complement Lufthansa’s existing daily flights from Frankfurt and Munich to Tokyo-Haneda.
Both the Frankfurt-Nagoya and Frankfurt-Narita services will be operated with Lufthansa’s Boeing 787-9 featuring the airline’s Allegris cabin configuration. The aircraft has 28 Business Class seats, 28 Premium Economy seats and 231 Economy Class seats.
SWISS is also increasing its Japan presence, with up to seven weekly flights between Zurich and Tokyo-Narita during summer 2027. Both Austrian and ITA Airways also operate in summer a daily flight to Japan. Austrian flies Vienne-Narita airport while ITA Airways flies Rome-Haneda airport.
