American Airlines is expanding its premium offering at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), where it plans to build the largest Admirals Club lounge in its network, while also preparing to restore nonstop service between New York JFK and Seattle.
The new Admirals Club will cover more than 4,000 square m. on the mezzanine level of the airport atrium, with construction starting this year. The centrally located lounge will overlook the concourse and include dedicated areas for dining, working, relaxing and recharging.
The design will draw on Charlotte’s character, including its tree canopy, textile heritage and blend of modern and Southern influences. Facilities will include spa-style shower suites, bars and serveries, along with multiple seating and work areas.
American announced its broader Charlotte lounge investment last year, including plans for its first Flagship Lounge at the airport. Existing Admirals Club locations, including the Provisions by Admirals Club near Gate A1 and lounges in Concourses B and C/D, will remain open during construction.
“Designing a lounge that gives our customers more space to relax, work and recharge is our top priority,” said Heather Garboden, American’s chief customer officer.
Charlotte is American’s second-largest hub, with more than 650 peak daily flights connecting the city to more than 180 destinations in 27 countries.
The airline is also restoring a transcontinental link that has been absent since 2019. American plans to resume New York JFK-Seattle service on April 6, 2027, with two daily Airbus A321neo flights.
The return of the JFK-Seattle route gives American another nonstop option between two major US business and leisure markets.
