Sofitel takes over Berlin luxury landmark Das Stue

Picture5 (11) Accor is bringing Sofitel’s French take on luxury to one of Berlin’s most distinctive hotels. The hospitality giant will transform SO/ Berlin Das Stue into Sofitel Berlin Das Stue, with the 78-room luxury hotel expected to officially join the Sofitel network in the first quarter of 2027.

The move strengthens Sofitel’s presence in Germany and adds another high-profile property to its growing collection of hotels in major European cultural capitals.

Set on the edge of Berlin’s Tiergarten and overlooking the Berlin Zoological Garden, the hotel occupies a protected 1930s neoclassical building that originally housed the Royal Danish Embassy.

Its Danish roots remain central to the property. Even its name, “Das Stue,” means “living room,” reflecting the building’s diplomatic origins.

The hotel has become known for its sophisticated contemporary design and intimate residential atmosphere. Its original transformation combines the building’s diplomatic heritage with modern residential elegance.

As part of the transition to Sofitel, the hotel will undergo a targeted improvement program designed to bring it in line with the brand’s standards without stripping away its distinctive identity.

Planned upgrades include renovated guest rooms, new bedding and textiles, refreshed public areas, updated signage and corridors, and a redesigned lobby featuring new artistic and decorative elements.

An urban luxury retreat
The property is located in Berlin’s prestigious embassy district, next to the Tiergarten and zoo, providing a secluded urban retreat within easy reach of the city’s major cultural and diplomatic landmarks.

Some rooms overlook the zoo’s animal enclosures, giving guests an unusual connection with nature in the heart of the German capital.

Sofitel Berlin Das Stue will feature 78 rooms and suites, including the exclusive Bel Etage Suite and Penthouse Suite.

Facilities will include a heated indoor pool, spa, fitness facilities, private meeting spaces and distinctive dining experiences reflecting Sofitel’s culinary focus.

The transition is intended to preserve the hotel’s mix of Danish heritage, contemporary design and Berlin culture while adding Sofitel’s approach to French-inspired hospitality, dining and service.

“Sofitel Berlin Das Stue perfectly embodies the balance between Berlin’s rich heritage and its constantly evolving cultural energy,” said Maud Bailly, CEO of Sofitel, Sofitel Legend, MGallery and Emblems.

She described the property’s history, design and location as a strong addition to the Sofitel portfolio, while emphasizing the intention to preserve the character that has made Das Stue popular with international guests.

Sofitel expands across Europe
The Berlin opening is part of Sofitel’s broader European expansion, with the brand now targeting 15 key destinations across the continent.

Sofitel Dublin is also scheduled to open in 2027, further expanding the luxury portfolio in major European cities.

Germany remains a strategic market for Accor. The group currently operates nearly 300 hotels with more than 43,000 rooms across all segments in the country, with around 30 additional projects under development.
